About
Anton Pettigrew is a Montréal-based practitioner working across glass, ceramics and digital fabrication.
Approach
My practice is primarily grounded in glass and ceramics. These materials form the starting point of my formal research. Each project begins with an intention that I develop through fabrication.
Process occupies a central place. The final form is not the direct application of an idea, but the result of a series of tests, adjustments and decisions made in contact with the material. This dialogue transforms the initial intuition and clarifies its contours.
I often work from utilitarian forms, not to illustrate them, but to put them to the test. They serve as points of reference to examine how a form defines itself under constraint and situates itself in space.
My practice exists between art and design. Glass and ceramics constitute its core, but I also integrate digital tools and other materials when the project requires it. What interests me most is how an idea materializes, shifts and asserts itself through making.
